Rainsford has written a book, and Zaroff has read the book is not an example of dramatic Irony, the reason I said dramatic irony was because knew it was not a personification nor was it characterization, so I ruled them out and then I ruled it down to flashback and dramatic irony and between those I had to guess. I know this is flashback because they use past tense words and it cant be any of the others because they do not match the description. So that is why the answer is D.
Condone in this passage does not mean commit. That was a silly mistake I said it because first thing that comes to my head when I think of murder is like who committed it if I would have re read the question several times I think I could have gotten it right. When I was going over this I re read it several times and that was when i realized condone means to accept. I double checked the definition and that is how I know now that condone means to accept.
I can not believe I got number 9 wrong I was rushing through and I circled the the first answer I saw with the word imagery in it. I know the correct answer is the one that has personification and imagery in it. Because it is very descriptive and also compares the night to thick blackness on a yacht which is personification.
I thought B was the answer because it was the only one not compared to a animal I am still a little confused with that. I know this is wrong now because it has simile in it, I now know D is the correct answer because that only has a personification and does not have a simile.
The answer actually isn't flashback.

You accidentally have your explanation flopped in the last answer. That's not why D is correct, but D is the correct answer!
